Bronze Powder Stenciling

Early American Decorative Stenciling on Tin and Wood

In this set of two DVDs, join masters of stenciling, Dortia Davis and Joyce Holzer, as they lead you through two comprehensive bronze powder stenciling lessons featuring historically authentic designs on tin and wood.  Their in-depth, step-by-step tutorials facilitate learning at your own pace.

The ancient art of applying bronze powders through finely cut stencils was adapted by American craftsmen and became a popular decorative style during the early 19th century.  Stenciled designs and scenes are often  seen on Boston rockers and Hitchcock chairs.  The Historical Society of Early American Decoration proudly presents this authoritative video as part of its educational mission, to preserve and reproduce original American designs.

The instructors demonstrate techniques that are valuable to applicants for Guild membership in HSEAD.  To learn more, click here.
