HSEAD Fall Workshop Meeting

September 18-21, 2008   Killington, VT

Theorem Painting

Taught by Alice Smith

The art of creating a picture with the use of stencils and oil tube paints was taught in girls’ academies in the early 1800’s.  This class will also include an introduction to theorem painting with the use of watercolors on both velvet and paper.  Participants in this class will be able to complete the class project plus samples of watercolor works.  For those who work faster, a selection of cut stencil theorem patterns will be available for student use.  Come learn the techniques demonstrated on the new video including how mica was applied by early theorem artists such as Emma Cady!
