The miniatures
for this workshop are from one artist, Justus DaLee (ca.1826
– ca.1848) and some members of his family, brother Richard
and his son Amon. The family traveled from New England,
spending much of their careers in New York State. Justus
eventually died, penniless and blind with his daughter in
Wisconsin.
These portraits
are simple to do, in that they are small 2”x 3½ ” to 3” X 5
¾” The beginner will find the technique used for doing much
of the painting, which can be difficult, such as faces,
hands, and some other details, are done in pencil. If it
doesn’t look right, it can be erased and done again.
Several can be
accomplished during our workshop with a minimum of supplies
needed.
