The miniatures for this workshop are from one artist, Justus DaLee (ca.1826 – ca.1848) and some members of his family, brother Richard and his son Amon.   The family traveled from New England, spending much of their careers in New York State. Justus eventually died, penniless and blind with his daughter in Wisconsin.

These portraits are simple to do, in that they are small 2”x 3½ ” to 3” X 5 ¾”  The beginner will find the technique used for doing much of the painting, which can be difficult, such as faces, hands, and some other details, are done in pencil.  If it doesn’t look right, it can be erased and done again.

Several can be accomplished during our workshop with a minimum of supplies needed.

Lab fee:  $5.00.  Supply list sent after Registration.
