Gold and Metal Leaf
In this craft, thin sheets of metal are used to apply decoration to objects, using a "varnish size" - a design is applied to an object with varnish, and the metal leaf is laid on while the varnish is tacky. The most well known is gold leaf, but other metals such as silver, copper, tin and aluminum are also used. Beautiful effects can be obtained by using different shades of metal, by using color washes over the metal, and by etching the metal itself.
