PAINTING ON GLASS – WITH A BORDER – Members
REQUIREMENTS
1. Design – 10% of points
Choose an authentic design, found on looking glasses and clocks, which must include a painted picture with an appropriate border. The design must be of proper scale and the glass must be of the correct size and shape for this class. The painted picture may or may not be sophisticated work, but crude design must be avoided.
2. Border – 25% of points
Border can be:
a. Sponged c. Gilded
b. Stenciled d. Or a combination of the foregoing a, b, and c
In the case of a gilded border, the leaf must be highly burnished and free of
breaks and pinholes. If the gilding is etched, it must be skillfully done.
The border must be backed with semi-opaque or opaque paint.
Background paint must not bleed through stenciled motif.
Striping, when appropriate, will be judged here. It may be stenciled, painted with a brush, or executed in ink or metal leaf. The striping must be straight, sure, and or uniform width and opacity.
3. OUTLINES – 25% of
points
Outlines of the picture elements which are painted with a brush and/or fine outlines of buildings, ships, etc, which are drawn with pen and ink must be firm and sure.
4. Painting and Overall
Feeling – 40% of points
The design, whether primitive or sophisticated, must be well placed and expertly painted.
