Limn (lim) v.t.1  to paint or draw,   limner (n)  itinerant (I-tin-er-ant) traveling from place to place or on a circuit (adj.)

In the beginning and early days of America before the advent of photography there was a continuous identifiable trend among both professional and self trained folk artists to record the faces, activities, wild life and habitat of the new world.

The itinerant artist (limners) traveled from house to house, town to town to record portraits and scenes in watercolor and or oils often working for room and board and perhaps a few cents.

A rich heritage of both fine and naïve renderings survive to attest to the early history and people of this country.

Students will: interpret the work of several well-known limners in watercolor, and gouache on watercolor paper.  The work of Maentel, Davis, Pinney, Babcock, Young, etc. will be among the choices for interpretation.

Supplies and lab fee – relax and enjoy

The lab fee of $40 will provide two patterns, with color copy and tracing, and all supplies needed for the workshop.  Students who have their own watercolors, gouache, and brushes will contact the instructor to discuss their use and adjustment of lab fee to $25. Additional patterns and some unfinished frames will be available for purchase. Instructor will contact students upon registration confirmation.
